MICHAEL R. KAPLAN, M. D.
Dr. Kaplan has been in practice in the Huntington Beach area for more than 30 years. His particular interest is cataract surgery and general ophthalmology. He teaches part time at UCI and the Long Beach Veterans Hospital, where he previously was head of the department. He enjoys teaching residents surgical techniques. He also has done extensive volunteer teaching and surgery in third world countries, including Mexico x 6, Costa Rica, Honduras, Philippines x 2, Vietnam x 3, Borneo, Nepal, Tibet, and Mongolia. He and his associates provide state of the art care for cataract, glaucoma, external disease, and all other aspects of general ophthalmology.
Dr. Kaplan grew up in Burbank, was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Pomona College, graduated UCLA Medical School, and did his residency at the Washington Hospital Center. He served as an ophthalmologist in the Navy for two years before staring private practice. He enjoys jogging and skiing, and has climbed Mt. Whitney in a single day on two occasions.
